This section is the Readme, Disclaimer and F.A.Q. part of ScraBot, all rolled into one, for your convenience and reading pleasure - nothing you haven't already seen on other websites.
About ScraBot
ScraBot is a free, organic home-grown open-source project. That's how it is, and that's how it always will be. The source code is licensed under GPL-3.
About not ScraBot
I am not in any way affiliated with the creators or copyright holders of the popular board game whose name begins with "scrab" and ends with "ble". In fact, at no point does ScraBot reference the aforementioned entities or the name of their product. Furthermore, there are some aspects of the game logic and design which are unique to ScraBot.
Some points worth noting
- There are no blank tiles
- Players are not obliged to start their first word from the centre of the board - they are, however, required to intersect it
- ScraBot accepts digraphs and trigraphs as both single tiles or as separate letters - the former earning more points, naturally
- Regardless of the language, the game is over after the fourth pass/swap in a row (i.e. both players do it twice in turn)
- Games played in Klingon are an exception to the above rule: once a player passes a move, he/she/it immediately suffers defeat and the opponent emerges victorious
- The sum of values of any tiles left in the players' racks are subtracted from their score once the game is over
I have found a bug, now what?
I’d rather you made it official and submit a bug report. Alternatively, you can simply send me a message. Try to be as detailed as possible, providing the exact steps for me to reproduce the issue. If the bug affects the game itself, do not delete it from the selector. In some cases a screenshot may also be helpful.
Suggestions/ideas/feature requests
The same as with bug reports. I would prefer if you filed a bug report, so others could join in. As an alternative, just send me a message. I am always open to suggestions.
It would be great if ScraBot could use language X
No problem. Contact me, and I’ll try to create a new dictionary. I will, however, expect you to help translating the user interface in turn. Agreed?
The website looks weird when I use Internet Explorer
I am shocked.
I’ve played an existing word, but ScraBot says it’s invalid
That could happen. Feel free to send me an inclusion request specifying the word in question accompanied by a link to an online resource that proves its existence. Note, that for some languages we need to restrict the dictionary to singular nominatives and pluralia tantum in order to avoid the whole thing growing out of proportions.
Can you implement WhatsApp/Skype/whatnot notifications?
As for WhatsApp, Skype and Viber I don’t know if I can, but I most certainly won’t. These are proprietary closed-source applications, and a potential security risk as such.
Privacy
Needless to say, all your personal data ScraBot collects is sold to Google and Facebook for insanely large amounts of money. Oh, and yes, this website uses cookies.
